Premenstrual Tension and Menstrual Cramps

Because the decreased blood calcium acts as a stress, the production of cortisone and aldosterone are stimulated and salt and water are retained in the body, often causing the breasts, hands, face, and feet to swell, weight to increase 5 to 10 pounds, headaches to occur, and resistance to allergies and infections to decrease markedly. Crimes of violence committed by women take place mostly during this period.

Did you think that PMS is only something that affected women? Think again! Men and PMS are actually connected in more ways than just one! (Of course, you might never get them to actually admit to it.)

First, a quick recap on what PMS really is. According to medical literature, PMS is a condition that affects women prior to the onset of menstruation. This limits the age bracket of women experiencing PMS from roughly 15 years of age to about 50. Women in menopause do no longer have to fear PMS. The fluctuating hormone levels that lead to the onset of menstruation also lead to the experience of PMS symptoms. Such symptoms, as men can attest to, usually involve bloating, acne, mood swings, general unhappiness, and a penchant for flying off the handle at the least provocation.

Treating PMS Symptoms Naturally

Many diseases and conditions can be treated naturally and PMS is one of them.

The most obvious natural treatment for PMS is exercise. Exercise releases endorphins which trigger good feelings, can reduce fluid retention and the perception of pain as well as to lift your mood.

Calcium supplementation may also reduce the severity of a woman’s PMS symptoms. A study found that women with the greatest intake of calcium from food sources had the least amount of PMS symptoms. 300mg of calcium carbonate taken four times a day can reduce bloating, depression, food cravings, pain and mood swings.
